The sacrifices and ashes of a heifer to purify the unclean, the
people come to Zin, complain of no water, water from the rock, Aaron
commanded to give the reign of high priest over to his son, Eleazar,
and Aaron dies.
Hello My Friend/Guest,
The word defile
is defined as to
make
foul,
dirty,
or
unclean,
to pollute or disgrace. Out of all the sins committed, those that
defile the flesh are more detestable to God than all the rest. Why?
Besides the body being the Temple in which God dwells in all
believers, it is the only type of sin that one can sin against his
own body. “Flee
fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he
that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What?
know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is
in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are
bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your
spirit, which are God's.”
- I Corinthians 6:18-20.
God gave the Israelites or anyone
amongst them, strict rules about cleansing the body should it be
defiled, perhaps the most enforced was that of touching dead flesh,
whether it was a dead animal or person, they were not even to go near
a grave without being cleansed.
“This
is the ordinance of the law which the LORD hath commanded, saying,
Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring thee a red heifer
without spot, wherein is no blemish, and upon which never came yoke:
And ye shall give her unto Eleazar the priest, that he may bring her
forth without the camp, and one shall slay her before his face:..Then
the priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in
water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the priest
shall be unclean until the even. And he that burneth her shall wash
his clothes in water, and bathe his flesh in water, and shall be
unclean until the even. And a man that is clean shall gather up the
ashes of the heifer, and lay them up without the camp in a clean
place, and it shall be kept for the congregation of the children of
Israel for a water of separation: it is a purification for
sin...Whosoever toucheth the dead body of any man that is dead, and
purifieth not himself, defileth the tabernacle of the LORD; and that
soul shall be cut off from Israel: because the water of separation
was not sprinkled upon him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is
yet upon him.”
- Numbers 19:2,3,7-9,13.
A dead body is a defiled body, a
dead body is any body that has not been cleansed through the blood of
Christ. When a person is born, because of sin that had been passed
down through Adam, it is born without the Spirit of God in it, while
it is walking, breathing, flesh, it is dead in spirit, making it a
defiled body. When a person comes to Jesus Christ and calls on Him to
save him he gets a clean body, he receives the Spirit of God, making
him walking, breathing, living flesh, alive with the Spirit of God in
him. “But
ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit
of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he
is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of
sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the
Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he
that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal
bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we
are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye
live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do
mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.”
- Romans 8:9-13.
Thirty-eight years had come to pass since
the ten spies encouraged the people not to go into the promised land,
all, but Moses, Aaron, Caleb, and Joshua had died and now they were
allowed to head back toward Canaan. While passing through they came
to Edom, it was the shortest route to the promised land, but they had
to get permission to pass through. When refused to pass the
Israelites became distraught and began complaining that there was no
water for them to drink. God gave Moses a command to get water for
them to drink, but out of anger he disobeyed that command and because
of that disobedience he forfeited his right to enter the promised
land. Not only did Moses lose that right, but Aaron did as well.
“And
the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Take the rod, and gather thou the
assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the
rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou
shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give
the congregation and their beasts drink. And Moses took the rod from
before the LORD, as he commanded him. And Moses and Aaron gathered
the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them,
Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And
Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice:
and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and
their beasts also. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because
ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of
Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land
which I have given them.”
- Numbers 20:7-12.
What was the offense that caused Moses
and Aaron to forfeit their rights to the promised land? There were
several reasons, first, God commanded Moses to speak to the rock,
instead he hit the rock. Second, he yelled at the congregation and
acknowledged himself and Aaron as the ones who would fetch water from
the rock (it came from God, not the rod). Third, both Moses and Aaron
appeared to God to have had a disbelief in Him, causing both of them
to forfeit their rights to enter the promised land. The only way
anyone can enter the promised land is by believing in and accepting
God's Son, Jesus Christ as their Savior. It is not enough to know
that Christ exists, we have to believe that Jesus Christ, is the only
Son of God, that He died, was buried, and three days later arose from
the dead to give life to us. “That
if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt
believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou
shalt be saved.”
- Romans 10:9.
Defiling the body goes beyond what we think is
dirty, most people imagine it as being sexual, but defiling the body
includes acts such as, alcohol abuse, smoking, drugs, fighting,
excessive eating, if it is immoral in any way, it is offensive to
God. The
closer a person gets to God the more offensive He becomes when he
sins, I am not talking about sins that are done unknowingly, we all
sin everyday unknowingly, I am talking about deliberate sin. The
smallest sin, even those committed through anger, seduction, or any
other acts of the flesh are offensive to God, especially if you have
chosen to live your life through Christ and do not fulfill your end
of the bargain. You know how an employer is always harder on the ones
who are hard workers and faithful? God is the same way, He is always
a little harder on the ones He knows can do the work. Why? Because we
know better and we are the example of Christ. Count yourself blessed
to receive chastisement from God once in a while, it is much better
than the alternative. “Yet
if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him
glorify God on this behalf. For
the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if
it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the
gospel of God?..Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will
of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as
unto a faithful Creator. ”
- I Peter 4:16,17,19.
Jesus
Christ Revealed:
Today Jesus is revealed through the
rock that
Moses struck. Jesus is our Rock, “And
did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that
spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”
- I Corinthians 10:4.
Thanks and God Bless You, I am praying
for you,
Christina
