Today's
Message:
A
New Life in Christ
No
matter what one has done in the past once they have accepted Jesus
into their life the old one fades away and is forgotten by God. We no
longer have to live in the past, but live a new life in Christ.
The
book of Colossians is the 12th
book of the New Testament, 51st
book of the Bible and contains 4 chapters. The author of the book is
Paul and it was written to the believers in Colosse who were to share
the letter with believers at Laodecea. The purpose of the letter was
to address doctrinal issues in the church. What we are to learn is
that Christ is all and is in all.
As we continue reading the
Word of God with a desire to please Him in all that we do the Holy
Spirit guides us to a deeper understanding and revelation of how to
follow His will. There is no limit to the understanding, strength,
and endurance that is made available to every Christian. Jesus Christ
alone, through His Word can reveal and meet all of our spiritual
needs. To help us understand the importance of realizing this Paul
wrote, "For
this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray
for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of
his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might
walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every
good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with
all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and
longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which
hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in
light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath
translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have
redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is
the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For
by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in
earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions,
or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for
him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist."
- Colossians 1:9-17. It is God's desire to give us all knowledge of
His will and the wisdom and spiritual understanding needed to follow
it. The only way to understand is by first acknowledging God's Son,
Jesus as our Savior through His blood that was shed to save all
mankind. Jesus is the truth, the life, and the only way to God and
understanding Him.
What follows is the practical expression
of the new life in Christ for all believers, "For
in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are
complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: In
whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without
hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the
circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye
are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who
hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and
the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with
him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting
of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took
it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled
principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing
over them in it."
Colossians 2:9-15. Once we recieve Christ and are baptised All of our
sins are washed away and a new life in Him begins. We will no longer
desire the things of the flesh, but things of the spirit as we become
more and more like Christ. That is why many people who live in the
world do not want to follow Him, they know that once they accept
Christ into their lives they will slowly lose interest in what they
are doing now.
As evidence of this new life as Christian's,
Paul encouraged new believers to put to death All past sins. "When
Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with
him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the
earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil
concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things'
sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the
which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them."
- Colossians 3:4-7. We are all sinners, but once we are saved we are
to be an example to those who still live in sin, do not judge them,
just pray for them and continue on with renewing Your Christ filled
life. "Let
the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and
admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do
in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks
to God and the Father by him. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own
husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Husbands,
love your wives, and be not bitter against them. Children, obey your
parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be
discouraged. Servants, obey in all things your masters according to
the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of
heart, fearing God; And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the
Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the
reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ."
Colossians 3:16-24. The Christian that studies God's Word is
difficult to lead astray and seek the things of the world. We rejoice
in the fact that we do not need these things to be happy or satisfied
because we will receive a much greater reward than anything we will
ever imagine.
Have a wonderful and blessed day/night and
Merry Christmas.
God
Bless You,
Christina
