Study: A Peculiar Child of God
God's
people have always been known as peculiar people, while the world
thinks that being peculiar means that we are strange, wacky, or
weird, in fact, you would think that we had the plague the way some
people act. However, in God's eyes we are His peculiar people, we do
stand out, and we are special, eccentric, and exclusive, privileged
people belonging to God. We may have all been born with free will,
but God has already chosen who He ordains in His family. With that in
mind we should all be honored to be a peculiar child of God.
The
long and seemingly uninteresting genealogy in these chapters reveals
that God does not look on mankind as just a multitude of human beings
who populate the earth. He created all for a reason and a purpose,
even Satan. Although all the Israelites were children of God and were
to obey and follow His commands if they wanted to see His blessings,
the Levites were ordained as special people who tended to the work of
the Tabernacle, then in the Temple, among them were the priests and
high priests, only the high priests were allowed to take the
sacrifices and place them on the altar for the atonement of the
peoples sins. High priests only came from descendents of Aaron. “The
sons of Levi; Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. And the sons of Kohath;
Amram, Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel. And the children of Amram;
Aaron, and Moses, and Miriam. The sons also of Aaron; Nadab, and
Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.”
- I Chronicles 6:1-3. The name of every individual priest and
Levite, along with the family and tribe he belonged to, was carefully
registered in this record book. In gratitude for their spiritual
leadership, the other tribes were given the responsibility of
sustaining the Levites who lived within their communities through
their tithes and offerings. Aaron, Eleazar, and Ithamar were devoted
to their calling as priests, but Aaron's two oldest sons Nadab and
Abihu were struck dead when they ignored Commandments of God. This
brings up a point that one may have been born into a godly home, but
it does not mean that they will all live for God. It all comes down
to who we allow ourselves to get around as we get older. We are
peculiar people so that means we are to avoid associating ourselves
with those who are not nor have any intention of serving God. Even
some Christians can take us in the wrong direction so it is important
that we get around people who are a godly influence and not a
worldly influence.
Now, the Spirit of God calls ministers to
their work, without any limit as to the families they came from and
then, as now, though believers and ministers may be very useful to
the church, none, but our great High Priest Jesus Christ can make an
atonement for our sin, nor can any be accepted, but through His
atonement. “For
the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged
sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and
of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and
intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not
manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the
eyes of him with whom we have to do. Seeing then that we have a great
high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God,
let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which
cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all
points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come
boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find
grace to help in time of need.”
- Hebrew 4:12-16.
It should be of little consequence to us
whether or not we are used of God in a spectacular work. The
deception of our generation is that we are prone to measure God's
approval in light of sensational success. However, the person who
satisfies God is one who is loyal to Christ and remains faithful to
Him even during the toughest trials in our lives. “But
ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a
peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who
hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; Which in
time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had
not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. Dearly beloved, I
beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts,
which war against the soul; Having your conversation honest among the
Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may
by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day
of visitation.”
- I Peter 2:9-12. By God's great mercy we can all be children of God.
We are children of God and it is time that all Christians thank and
honor God by remaining loyal to Him. We are a peculiar people and God
wants us to be seen as that, the more we show the world how blessed
we are to be children of God the more it will get others to see that
they too can be blessed by committing their lives to God. That's
right, you are a peculiar person, a special, one of a kind person,
that God Himself has chosen to be a part of His family. Praise
God!
Enjoy the rest of your day/night and enjoy the rest of
the week.
God
Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
