Today's
Message:
Are
You Sober or Drunk?
Jesus will come in the blink of an eye, so if you want to avoid a
wreck you have to ask yourself “Are you sober or are you drunk?”
The book of I Thessalonians is the 13th
book of the New Testament, the 52nd
book of the Bible, and contains 5 chapters. The author of the book is
Paul and it was written to the believers of Thessalonica. The purpose
of the letter is to assure the people that Jesus is coming back and
to correct any false teaching. What we are to learn from the book is
that Jesus is in fact coming back and that our comfort should focus
on the glorious hope of His return. “For
our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in
the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men
we were among you for your sake. And ye became followers of us, and
of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of
the Holy Ghost. So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in
Macedonia and Achaia. For from you sounded out the word of the Lord
not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith
to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.
For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto
you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true
God; And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the
dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.”
- I Thessalonians 1:5-10. Christian's have no doubt that Jesus will
one day return, the hope of the Church will soon be satisfied and the
sins of all will be judged. Those whom have accepted Jesus Christ as
their Savior will not have their sins judged because they are resting
on the promise that all their sins have been forgiven and were
removed when they accepted Jesus into their lives. Praise God that
all our past sins are forgotten and even erased from the book of
life.
I Thessalonians teaches us that our main purpose in
life is to please God, as long as we place Him first above all things
we will be able to enjoy the fruits of our labor. “For
ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night
and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we
preached unto you the gospel of God. Ye are witnesses, and God also,
how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you
that believe: As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged
every one of you, as a father doth his children, That ye would walk
worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.”
- I Thessalonians 2:9-12. We are to be examples of what it is like to
be a true Christian. Whether you realize it or not, you are being
watched not only by fellow Christian's, but by those who are not as
well. We are all God's witnesses and are to live according to His
Will, giving Him glory for all things. This does not mean that we can
not have hobbies or other interests, but it does mean that God must
come first before all these things.
There are no words to
adequately describe the glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ. All
of history is reduced to just two ages: the present age that began
with Adam, and the age to come. “For
yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a
thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then
sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with
child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in
darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all
the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the
night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but
let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night;
and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who
are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and
love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.”
- I Thessalonians 5:2-8. We have no way of knowing when the
appointed time of Christ's return will be so we can not wait for the
time we think is the right to seek Jesus. We need to put aside
anything that hinders us from bringing Him into our lives. Remember,
you are the light of the world therefore, you must be alert and sober
as you prepare for the day He comes to get us. It is okay to live
your life, but it is now time to think about what you are doing and
where your life is headed. A person who is a drunk never knows what
is going on and often when they come out of it they are clueless as
to what happened. Have you ever seen a person that was drunk,
driving? They are not very alert and all over the road, it is very
scary to even drive pass them, if you were not sober and alert as to
what was going on you would be in a wreck and possibly lose your
life. Jesus is life so if you want to avoid a wreck you need to seek
Him now, there is no time to wait.
Today's
Prayer:
Dear
God,
I will call upon you, for you are worthy to be praised, and I
will be saved from my enemies. My heart rejoices in you. I trust in
your holy name. I rejoice in you; I trust in you; I shout for joy
because you defend me. I thank you that you bless and surround me
like a shield. You are my God and I am one of your sheep for whom you
extend your hand of protection. You are my refuge and my strength in
the day of trouble. I will sing your praises forever. In Jesus'
name.......Amen.
Have a wonderful and blessed day/night and
Merry Christmas
God
Bless You,
Christina
