God's Job Opening

are reading through the Bible in a year. Today's message comes from

Study: God's Job Opening
God
appointed the Levites, in particular, to be His special servants.
They were to separate themselves from all the rest of the tribes.
“And
the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, And I, behold, I have taken the
Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the
firstborn that openeth the matrix among the children of Israel:
therefore the Levites shall be mine; Because all the firstborn are
mine; for on the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land of
Egypt I hallowed unto me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and
beast: mine shall they be: I am the LORD.”
- Numbers 3:11-13. A matrix is something that develops from an
original state, an example would be a master or leader that sets the
example for others to follow. In other words, God, who was master of
all, chose the Levites to be the godly leaders that would set the
example for the rest of the tribes. God knew that once the
Israelite's entered into the promised land that they would fall
easily into the idol worshiping and other worldly things that was
going on there. So, He needed one tribe to set themselves apart from
the rest of them so that at least some of His people would live a
godly life. If the Levites had dwelled among the rest of the tribes
they too would become as one of them, therefore, they were to
separate themselves from the rest of the tribes. The same goes for us
as Christian's as well, there are many people who will call on Jesus
as their Savior just to get in the gate. Praise God that they will
get through the gate, but they will really never do much for God here
on earth. So, God has chosen a select few to be an example for the
others to follow. Any person who calls on Jesus as their Savior and
chooses to live their lives for Him literally is born into the tribe
of Levites and is to be separated from all the rest of His children.
God not only chose the Levites as His special people He also
employed them into the ministry of God, they were in charge of the
Tabernacle and everything in it, each person had a specific job to do
to lighten the load for Aaron and his sons which at the time were the
only three working there. They were divided according to the sons of
Levi; Gershon, Kohath, and Merari; and these were subdivided into
families. Each group was given a particular job to do according to
the sons they came from. “Number
the children of Levi after the house of their fathers, by their
families: every male from a month old and upward shalt thou number
them. And Moses numbered them according to the word of the LORD, as
he was commanded. And these were the sons of Levi by their names;
Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari.”
- Numbers 3:15-17. The first-born, were offered to God, not as a
sacrifice, but to be trained to serve Him in the ministry. He would
be taught from almost birth God's Word, what he was to do for Him and
what position he held in the Tabernacle. Today, when we accept Jesus
Christ as our Savior we are reborn, so, we become baby Christian's.
We are then babies being trained to serve God in the ministry and as
we grow we obtain the positions that God prepares us for. “As
newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow
thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. To whom
coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen
of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a
spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual
sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.”
- II Peter 2:2-5. God has appointed each and every one of His elect
into the holy priesthood, meaning that we are called to minister to
others and be a part of the church.
Since we are God's elect,
born into the tribe of Levites and are called into the ministry of
God that means we are to act like we are God's elect. In my Sunday
School class I said to my girls, You know when we accept Jesus in our
hearts and become a child of God that means that Jesus comes into our
hearts and lives inside us. So, if we do bad things, we are making
Jesus do bad things too. Of course Jesus can not do bad things, but
when we continue to do bad things we are hurting Him and making Him
sad. The same thing should apply to adults,
since
Jesus lives inside us we have to pay serious attention to the things
we do. Think about it. The Apostle Paul said, “Know
ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be
not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor
effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor
covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall
inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are
washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of
the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”-
I Corinthians 6:9-11. At one time, no matter how good we tried to be,
we could not enter the kingdom of God, but by God's grace and the
shed blood of Christ we can all rejoice in the fact that we are
washed clean of all our sins and can now enter the kingdom of God.
Praise God! One thing I would like to make clear here is that
although we are called into God's ministry and He blesses us for the
work we do, it is not the work we do that gets us to heaven. “Knowing
that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith
of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might
be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law:
for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”
- Galatians 2:16. It is only by accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior
that gets us to heaven, He is the gift that God gave us by His grace,
our salvation can not be earned, it is freely given to all who call
on Jesus to save them. Praise God!
