God continues to instruct Moses on how the people were to offer the
sin offering, the burnt offering, and the trespass offering,
instructions for sinning ignorantly and willfully, and the sacrifices
that the priests were to offer.
Hello My Friend/Guest,
The
word ignorant is defined as lacking
in
knowledge,
training, or awareness. Being ignorant or lacking in the knowledge of
hell does not save us from hell. I hear so many people say when
asked, “If you were to die today, do you that you would be in
heaven?” say, “When I die I die, that's it.” No, that is not
it! The flesh might die, but that's not it, there is a soul inside
every person and if that soul does not know Jesus Christ that soul,
the most inner being of the person, gets a one way ticket to hell.
“He
that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and
he shall be my son. But
the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and
whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have
their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which
is the second death.”
- Revelation 21:7,8. Nothing escapes hell except for trusting in the
Lord Jesus Christ.
God is instructing Moses on how the
Israelites were to bring the offerings, there were actually five
offerings that were to be made. The sin offering, the peace offering,
the burnt offering, the meat offering, and the trespass offering.
Above all was the sin offering, it was the only one to be given for
the atonement of their sins, even if they ignorantly sinned, were not
aware of the sin, they had to present a sin offering.
“Speak
unto the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin through
ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning
things which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of
them:..And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the sin offering,
and slay it for a sin offering in the place where they kill the burnt
offering. And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering
with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt
offering, and shall pour out all the blood thereof at the bottom of
the altar: And he shall take away all the fat thereof, as the fat of
the lamb is taken away from the sacrifice of the peace offerings; and
the priest shall burn them upon the altar, according to the offerings
made by fire unto the LORD: and the priest shall make an atonement
for his sin that he hath committed, and it shall be forgiven him.”
- Leviticus 4:2,33-35.
Even
sins done in ignorance need to be atoned for by sacrifice. The sin
offering is Christ seen laden with the believer’s sins, absolutely
in the sinner’s place and stead, and not as in the sweet savor
offerings. To plead ignorance when charged with sin will not deliver.
Our only hope is in acceptance of Him who “became sin for us”,
Jesus Christ. “For
he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be
made the righteousness of God in him.”
- II Corinthians 5:21.
Now, if a person knowingly sinned,
meaning they were not lacking in knowledge and knew very well what
they were doing, he would be subject to some major suffering until he
repented. “And
if a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing, and is a witness,
whether he hath seen or known of it; if he do not utter it, then he
shall bear his iniquity. Or
if a soul touch any unclean thing, whether it be a carcase of an
unclean beast, or a carcase of unclean cattle, or the carcase of
unclean creeping things, and if it be hidden from him; he also shall
be unclean, and guilty. Or if he touch the uncleanness of man,
whatsoever uncleanness it be that a man shall be defiled withal, and
it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty.
Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do
good, whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and
it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in
one of these. And it shall be, when he shall be guilty in one of
these things, that he shall confess that he hath sinned in that
thing:”
- Leviticus 5:1-5.
Since
Christ has “made His soul an offering for sin” we should seek to
make restitution to any person we have injured or defrauded, and
until we do, we will not enjoy the comfort of His forgiveness of our
sins. If you called on Jesus Christ to save you than you have been
set free, free from total separation from God and hell. However, that
freedom does not give us the right to do whatever we please and not
suffer the consequences of it. “But
ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a
peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who
hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; Which
in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which
had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. Dearly beloved,
I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts,
which war against the soul;..For so is the will of God, that with
well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As
free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as
the servants of God.”
- I Peter 2:9-11,15,16.
A trespass offering was offered as a
way to be forgiven of specific sins, especially sins against a
neighbor. “If
a soul sin, and commit a trespass against the LORD, and lie unto his
neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep, or in fellowship,
or in a thing taken away by violence, or hath deceived his neighbour;
Or
have found that which was lost, and lieth concerning it, and sweareth
falsely; in any of all these that a man doeth, sinning therein: Then
it shall be, because he hath sinned, and is guilty, that he shall
restore that which he took violently away, or the thing which he hath
deceitfully gotten, or that which was delivered him to keep, or the
lost thing which he found,..And he shall bring his trespass offering
unto the LORD, a ram without blemish out of the flock, with thy
estimation, for a trespass offering, unto the priest: And the priest
shall make an atonement for him before the LORD: and it shall be
forgiven him for any thing of all that he hath done in trespassing
therein.”
- Leviticus 6:2-4,6,7.
Trespass
against our neighbor is trespass against God, because it is an
offensive to our Savior who has redeemed us and the injury reflects
upon God who has commanded that we should love our neighbor as
ourselves. “A
new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have
loved you, that ye also love one another. By
this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one
to another.”
- John 13:34,35.
There
is no difference between sin committed unknowingly or knowingly, it
is all sin to God and cause for repentance. It is wise to go before
God and ask Him to reveal any hidden sin, “Search
me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And
see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way
everlasting.”
- Psalm 139:23,24.
If
a person gets saved and continues to live in sin with the attitude
that “No matter what I do I am saved so, I am going to do it
anyway.” he will suffer more and more until he repents. Do you ever
wonder why a wicked person seems to out live a righteous person? God
is not going to let that person see the luxuries of heaven while
living wickedly. Do not think that that person is not going through
some suffering? It may not look like it, but God makes him suffer,
and will keep making him suffer until he repents. “The
Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count
slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any
should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
- II Peter 3:9.
Jesus
Christ Revealed:
Today Jesus is revealed through the body of the young bull which was
sacrificed (4:12). “Be
ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as
Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering
and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”
- Ephesians 5:1,2.
Thanks and God Bless You, I am praying
for you,
Christina
