Many churches give holy communion in observance of Jesus' last supper here on earth. “And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” -Matthew 26:26-28. If you have ever taken communion you know that you receive a wafer or some bread and some grape juice. The bread represents the body of Christ signifying that we are one with Christ when we accept Him and receive Him as our Savior. The juice represents His blood shed signifying that we believe that we are cleansed by His blood that was shed for the atonement of our sins when we accepted Him as our Savior. This is why we have the New Testament of the Bible, it is all about the remission of sins after Jesus resurrected.

Many people dismiss the Old Testament, but it is important that we know and study both testaments. While we are not bound to some of the laws God gave the Jews before Jesus came, we are bound to the same blood, same God, and same Jesus. Paul explained this to the people at Corinth. “Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness...Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” - I Corinthians 10:1-5,11-13.

The word admonition means as a caution or warning, every person and event that took place that was written in the Bible was given to us as an example of God's blessings and chastisements so we can be prepared and know how to avoid and handle any kind of trials and temptations that we are subject to. God never places anything before us that He knows we can not handle, so, those who remain in sin, using the excuse of circumstances are not trusting in God to help them out of that situation. “The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread. But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.” - I Corinthians 10:16,17,20,21.

Paul is speaking to those who are Christians living a double life, meaning they follow Christ, but also live in the world. Once a Jew or Gentile is saved he is no longer a Jew or Gentile, but a Christian, a child of God. So, if they remain living in the world they are fellowshipping with Satan as well. It never works out, you can not serve both, Jesus said, “No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” -Luke 16:13.

If you are in a situation that is beyond your control you have to give it over to God and let Him show you what you need to do to get out of it. You say it's impossible? Nothing is impossible when we allow Christ to lead us. I was a double life Christian, I had a boyfriend, we lived together, he pulled me into some immoral things that I knew were wrong, he cheated on me and yet, I truly loved him and did not want to lose him so I did what he asked me to do because I did not want to lose him. In the end, all the suffering, shame, and humiliation he put me through got replaced by the mercy, grace, and forgiveness of our wonderful God. I am now living a moral Christian life that I am not ashamed of without the boy friend in it. It was not easy and took me a while, but now I would not know what to do if Jesus was not in my life. I thank Him every day for getting me out of the mess that I was in. “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” - Luke 1:37. God will help us out of any situation we are in as long as we seek His help.

When most people think of the word charity they think of it as giving money or something to help out the poor, needy, etc. However, in God's eyes charity goes beyond helping the needy. Paul reminds us what charity is, “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.” - I Corinthians 13:4-7. To God the word charity means love, it is having kindness and compassion for one another, regardless of how you have been treated. It may seem surprising to the world, but from God's point of view it is more important to be known for one's loving kindness, thoughtfulness, compassion, and consideration than being a famous evangelist or preacher.

You do not have to go to church and give communion there to know that you are a part of Christ, in fact, many of the churches that do give communion only allow certain people to receive it. This is false, any person who accepts Christ as their Savior already and always will have Christ and His blood inside of them. However, it is good to be reminded of just who are a apart of, so, the next time you eat a piece of bread or drink a cup of juice remind yourself that Christ is with you and, ““For with God nothing shall be impossible.” - Luke 1:37.
