Title: Bible Study: Seek The Light
Today's chapters discuss the importance of light, bread, and not blaspheming God's name. One of the most essential gifts we can ever receive is light, without it you literally can not see what is before or around you, you are in complete darkness. Light is very important, in fact, even before Jesus, it was important for the priests to keep the lamps in the Tabernacle lit at all times. “
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Command the children of Israel, that they bring unto thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamps to burn continually. Without the vail of the testimony, in the tabernacle of the congregation, shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before the LORD continually: it shall be a statute for ever in your generations. He shall order the lamps upon the pure candlestick before the LORD continually.” - Leviticus 24:1-4. Although God sees and knows everything we do, He wants us to be in the light continually. Why? Because He is the light. Think about darkness for a moment. What comes to mind? Darkness is something that you can not see even if it is right before your eyes. When walking in the dark, if you do not know where you are going you could literally hurt yourself, it is as if you are blind. So, in a sense darkness blinds us from seeing the dangers of what we are walking in to. Think about light for a moment. What comes to mind? Light gives us the lift we need and helps us feel good about ourselves. Now, if darkness blinds us then we have no way of sensing danger until it is too late. Think about it. If you are in an unhealthy relationship, you are blinded by the person who controls you. If you are depressed, you are blinded by what controls the depression. If you are addicted to something, you are blinded by the substance that controls you. If you are living in sin, you are blinded by the sin that controls you.

What is the word that all these examples have in common? Control. When you live in the dark you become controlled by the very thing that you hold on to that gives you light. The truth is this, we all want to feel loved and wanted and when we find that person or thing that helps us feel that way we tend to look at it as something that brings us light. More often though, the thing that we become dependent on is the result of these emotions and because we want that feeling all the time we continue to live in the dark, doing whatever it takes to get back into the light. Now, God knows what you are going through and He wants you to get out of the darkness and into the light. How do you get into the light? Today, the only way to get out of that darkness and into the light is through Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself Said, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” - John 8:12. Jesus, who is God in the flesh, is light and He brings light to help us get out of any situation that we get into. So, if you are struggling go to Jesus, He will bring some light into your life.

Now, bread is just as important as light, in fact, bread gives us nourishment and life. Every sabbath Aaron or a priest was required to put 12 loves of bread upon the table as an offering to God. “And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes thereof: two tenth deals shall be in one cake. And thou shalt set them in two rows, six on a row, upon the pure table before the LORD. And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire unto the LORD. Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant.” - Leviticus 24:5-8. The bread represented the twelve tribes of Israel, and God who sustains them. They were placed side by side in two rows, showing that no tribe was above the other. The loaves of bread were placed before the presence of God," signifying that He and His Word alone sustained their very lives. By eating the bread, the priests confirmed Israel's dependence upon Him. Today, when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior we signify that we are depending on Him and His Word to sustain our lives. Jesus Said, “I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” - John 6:51.

Now, God addresses one of the things that just anger Him more than anything and that is blasphemy. Blasphemy is cursing God and or thinking of oneself as God, when someone blasphemed God that was an instant death sentence. “And the Israelitish woman's son blasphemed the name of the Lord, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:) And they put him in ward, that the mind of the LORD might be shewed them. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him. And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin. And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death.” - Leviticus 24:11-16. Blaspheming is a serious sin, it not only disrespects God it disrespects His people as well. When we as Christian's call on the name of the Lord, we become a child of His, therefore if anyone curses them they curse God as well and He will not stand for it. One of the Ten Commandments written by God Himself states, thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. So many people are unaware that they are taking God's name in vain, including many Christian's who truly love God. If we were to say, my ___! or Oh My ___!, even saying Jesus' name we are taking God's name in vain. Okay, so here is the reason, it is not the words per se, it is how the words are used that take God's name in vain. Think about it. What is your emotional state when you say these phrases. I remember at one time I thought it was okay to say some of them because I that I was thinking about God, but most of the time it was when I was angry, aggravated, or upset about something. I was not thinking about God because if I were I would have been praying or talking to Him personally, not exclaiming His name over what I had saw.

We need to seriously take a look at the things we are doing in our lives. Are you living in darkness, blaspheming God, or looking for spiritual nourishment from someone or thing other than Jesus? Thank God that we are not bound to laws of Moses today or we would all be in trouble. Praise God! That even if we have done any of these things we are forgiven and saved by the one and only Jesus Christ. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” - I John 1:9. Remember, God knows our heart and knows whether or not we have done something our of ignorance or on purpose, if we confess truthfully He is faithful to forgive our sins. Praise God!

Enjoy the rest of your day/night and God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
