Today's
Message: The Coming Messiah
As
Christian's, we are blessed to know Christ and it is our faith in Him
that keeps us looking forward to His return. So, what did those
before Christ do to get saved? They too put their faith in the Coming
Messiah.
Many of the Psalms written have clues of the coming
Messiah, Jesus Christ, it is amazing to think that salvation for
those before Christ was born had the same meaning as it does now. You
see, they were told since Adam and Eve committed the first sin that
the Messiah would be coming to save them from death and it was that
faith that got them saved as well. However, they still had to be
cleansed from their sins and the only way at that time was through a
sacrifice (something willing to take their place for their death),
which was an unblemished (pure) animal. King David was inspired by
the Holy Spirit to foretell many of the prophecies of Christ, he
quoted this verse in Psalm 118. “The LORD
said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine
enemies thy footstool.” - Psalm 118:1. Jesus quoted this
verse while being tempted by the Pharisees. “And
Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the
scribes that Christ is the son of David? For David himself said by
the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
till I make thine enemies thy footstool. David therefore himself
calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common
people heard him gladly.” - Mark 12:35-37. Jesus was telling
the doubting people that even David said “the
LORD said to my Lord”, meaning that God (the LORD) said to
David's Lord (the Son of God). In other words, God said to David that
his Lord (David's) would sit at His (Gods) right hand until He makes
His enemies His footstool. Had David been the descendent of Jesus he
would not be calling his own son, my Lord.
The Jews believed, and many still
believe, that the coming Messiah would be a son (descendent) of
David, this is incorrect. What is correct is that Joseph, whom was
Mary's husband, was a son of David, “And
Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who
is called Christ.” - Matthew 1:16. Now, we all know that
Mary was conceived through the Holy Spirit, meaning that Jesus had no
earthly father or mother, but it was important that Jesus be born
through the right lineage of people, a Levite. Joseph and Mary in a
sense became surrogate (substitute) parents, thus Jesus became a
surrogate son of David, not an actual son. Had He been born through
the lineage of any of the other tribes He would have not been able to
be a priest or teach in the Temple.
When Jesus ascended into
heaven, He fulfilled the prophecy that Jesus would sit at the right
hand of God, once again, this verse is quoted and explains what I
just mentioned earlier proving that Jesus is not an actual son of
David. “Therefore being a prophet, and
knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of
his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on
his throne; He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of
Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see
corruption. This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are
witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and
having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath
shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. For David is not ascended
into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord,
Sit thou on my right hand, Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath
made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
- Acts 2:30-36. There is only one Jesus, whom is God in the flesh,
through the Lord Jesus Christ. No matter how many people try to deny
it they can not hide that fact.
Christ will reign by divine
appointment even though Israel, as a nation, rejected their Messiah
King. When we consider Him, we can rejoice with the psalmist who
said, “Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man
that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright
shall be blessed.” - Psalm 112:1,2. A respectful fear of God
inspires a love for Him that will move us to delight in His
commandments, which in turn blesses us as we wait upon His seed to
reign the earth.
Today's Prayer:
Dear God,
You
desire that we live holy and godly lives as we eagerly await the
reappearing of Your Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Nothing
here on earth compares with the anticipation we feel about that
glorious day. We want to speed Christ’s coming by sharing the
gospel message to those near and far. Help us not to be timid or
apathetic, but keep us enthused and eager to share the message of
salvation so that we speed Your Son’s return. In Jesus'
Name..........Amen.
Have a wonderful and blessed day/night
and enjoy the rest of your week.
God Bless You,
Christina
