Today's
Message:
Want
God's Attention
While
having faith in God is wonderful, we must realize that faith in God
requires more than just saying, God hear my prayer. If we want God's
attention we must be willing to do the work necessary to get it.
The book of James is the 20th
book of the New Testament, the 59th
book of the Bible, and contains 5 chapters. The author of the book is
James and it was written to the believers who were among the twelve
tribes of Israel. The purpose of the letter was to comfort believers
who were undergoing trials for their faith. What we are to learn from
the book is that faith is the foundation of works, but without works
it is dead. As we discussed yesterday the Bible says, “Now
faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things
not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith
we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that
things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”
- Hebrews 11:1-3. What does this mean, it means that faith is the
core of obtaining the things hoped for with proof that it came from
something that was not seen by the human eye. In other words, people
whom have put their faith in God, whom is not seen, will receive the
things hopes for and God Himself will prove that He is who He is. For
example, a man at my church was diagnosed with brain cancer, we found
out this past week that he has miraculously recovered from it and it
has disappeared. This man had strong faith in God and knew that He
would heal him.
Yes, God can and will heal all, sometimes not
in a way that we would want, but we must realize that God is taking
care of the individual, not us. I had an Aunt that had a tumor in her
brain, she went in for surgery and it went perfectly. Then the
surgeon went back in for some other reason and all of a sudden she
was in a coma and three days later lost a good part of her brain,
within a week she had passed away. Why? I believe it was because she
lost her will to live, my Aunt was very active and to live the rest
of her life in a bed or chair would have killed her so I believe she
did not have the will to pull through it. If we do not have the will
or truly believe that our circumstances will change nothing will in
fact never change. “Knowing
this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But
let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and
entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of
God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it
shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For
he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and
tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of
the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
- James 1:3-8. When we ask God for things any have any doubts that we
will get them we are not putting our complete trust in Him. Do you
think that He does not know if you truly have faith in Him to take
care of your needs? If we do not trust Him we will not get what we
ask for. “What
doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have
not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and
destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in
peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not
those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even
so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may
say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy
works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that
there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and
tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is
dead?” - James
2:14-20.
Our attitude during difficult times tells a lot
about our faith in God. Some people keep a positive attitude, no
matter how difficult the situation they never give up hope of seeing
a better future. Others have an attitude of desperation, they are
prone to tell everyone about all their suffering, seeking as much
sympathy as they can from anyone willing to listen. Yet, there are
others who have a deeply negative attitude and they are prone to
blaming others or even God for their problems instead of doing
something about them. “Wherefore
lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive
with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own
selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is
like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he
beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what
manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of
liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but
a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. If any man
among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but
deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Pure religion
and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the
fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself
unspotted from the world.”
- James 1:21-27. We can not live our lives angry and bitter or moping
around because things are not going as planned. We must have faith
and keep moving onward and forward. No matter how many people we tell
our sorrows to unless we make a step forward we will never go any
where. When faced with trials, do not get angry and walk around
depressed, lift your head up high, seek God, and ask Him to help you.
While you are at it try to be of help to others and pray for them
too, the more you take your focus off your own problems the more
blessed you will become.
Have
a wonderful and blessed day/night and Merry Christmas
God
Bless You,
Christina
