“Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” - II Corinthians 4:14-18.

As Christians we expect to face affliction when we sin, even those who live in the world come up with some kind of conclusion to affliction such as, what goes around come around, or it's karma. However, it is a different story when we face affliction and have not been doing anything wrong. The truth is, we will all face affliction at some point in our lives regardless of how good we try to be. Why? We are in the middle of a battle between God and Satan, who will win the battle remains up to us in how we choose to handle the afflictions we face.

Sandwiched in the center of the Old Testament Books are known as Books of Poetry. Theses are the books of human experiences of the people of God under various circumstances of their earthly lives. The Book of Job is the eighteenth book of the Old Testament/Bible and contains forty-two chapters. It is probably the oldest of the Bible books, around the time of the Abrahamic Covenant, the book was written approximately in 1520 BC. The author of the book is Moses and it was written to all people who experience suffering for unexplained reasons. The purpose of the book is to explain the question "Why the righteous suffer?". What we are to learn from the book is that there is a spiritual reason behind the suffering of the righteous. “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” - Job 23:10.

Believe it or not, everyone will stand before God, even Satan, in fact, Satan even needs to get permission from God to afflict us. We learn of this through a man name Job, the meaning of Job's name actually, means one that weeps or cries. Job was not afraid to cry, but the one thing he was never afraid of was his faith in God. One day, while God was admitting people into the Kingdom, Satan shows up. Why God allows Satan to stand at the gates of heaven is always a question, but nevertheless he was there and talking with God.

“There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil...Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them... Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.” - Job 1:1,6,9-12.

Yes, God does allow Satan to test our faith in Him through affliction, now, Satan knows that if a person has accepted Christ as their Savior that they will not go to hell, but that does not stop him from trying to place so much affliction upon us that we backslide away from God. Why? If Satan can get someone of great faith to fall away from God he can keep others from believing in Christ and getting saved. If you are saved and have backslid, know this, God is still with you. “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” - Romans 8:35-39.

Job, one by one, lost his family, home, and wealth in a matter of minutes, Satan expected him to curse God, instead, he got down on his knees and prayed, he did not complain or question God, he just went before him remembering that all he had belonged to God. “Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.” - Job 1:20-22. But Satan was not done, he went back to God one more time.

“And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life. But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.” - Job 2:2-6.

God told Satan, you can make him sick, but don't kill him and that is exactly what Satan did. You know, when we are facing affliction, especially when we are sick, most of us are quick to wonder what we have done, often retracing our steps to think of what we might have done that we are being punished, but the truth is, God is not punishing us, He is merely looking for us to trust Him. God knows what is best for us and when we trust His decision He blesses us, it may not be a blessing that we expect, but everything is a blessing from God. Even when a person passes away, it is all in God's hands, God takes away our pain according to not only His will, but our will as well. “The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.” - Psalms 9:9,10.

Behind all the world's evil is Satan in his continuous effort to destroy all that is good, but Satan is under the constant surveillance of God and can do nothing without His permission. He delights in using family, friends, coworkers, and even fellow church members to criticize, belittle, and condemn one another. However, Our God, the Master Planner, is still in full control and never leaves those who have put their faith and trust in His Son. “For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.” - I Timothy 4:8-10.
